About Montessori
The Montessori method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator who dedicated her life to understanding how children learn. Through scientific observation, she discovered that children have a natural desire to learn and an incredible ability to develop independence when placed in the right environment.
Dr. Montessori believed that education should follow the child. Rather than traditional teacher-led instruction, she designed classrooms where children actively engage with specially created learning materials that isolate concepts and encourage deep understanding. These materials allow children to learn through movement, touch, repetition, and self-correction — building confidence and mastery.
A key principle of Montessori education is the “prepared environment.” Classrooms are thoughtfully organised, orderly, and accessible, allowing children to choose work independently and take responsibility for their surroundings. Mixed-age groupings foster collaboration, peer learning, leadership, and respect for others.
